HarPIM Ensemble is a musical group formed by the harp students and teacher at PIM – Integration through Music Program in Brazil. The students are at different levels at the instrument, some of them playing the pedal harp, some playing the lever harp. PIM is a social program for kids and teenagers coming from the public school system in the historical little town of Vassouras, state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The lessons are totally free and most of the kids come from families of very low income. The harp teacher, Rayana do Val, is a freelance harpist graduated in harp performance at UFRJ – Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, having studied with Cristina Braga, Brazil’s most acclaimed harpist. The harp students are aged from 8 to 19, mostly girls, some of them playing the harp for more than 5 years, others for only one year. The goal of the group is to gather kids with different levels of harp playing and make beautiful music, mostly by Brazilian composers.
